Why am I or others receiving spam from me?
- 1
Your email address is being forged
Due to the technical design of email, it's easy to forge messages so that they appear to have been sent from another email address.
This is exactly why email from spammers almost always appears to come from individuals, including yourself, or people in your own address book!

A virus or spammer has acquired your mailbox's login credentials
Either an individual, or spamming robot is using your username and password to send messages via smtp.zootzone.com.

To prevent email forgery, configure SPF for your domain
Sender Policy Framework, or SPF allows you to set up domain rules which specify that email which uses your address may only come from specific servers.
These domain rules (called DNS records) must be configured at the provider which controls your domain's settings (often the same people who manage your domain's registration for you).
If zootzone.com controls your domain:
- If you are a beginner or non-technical, submit a support request asking us to enable SPF for your domain
- If you are more technical, login to the control panel ... add link ...
Typically, you would specify that only your email provider's servers are allowed to do so. However, if you are using a mailing list service like MailChimp or another on-line service which you've commissioned to send mail on your behalf, you should also add their mail servers to the settings.

To prevent abuse of your email account by spammers:
If you suspect this and are using IMAP, check your Sent folder to confirm that the messages are being sent by your account.
Let us know that this is happening by sending an email to [mailto:help@zootzone.com] so we can change your mailbox password.
First disconnect your computer from the Internet, just in case the spam is being sent by a virus which has infected your computer.
Then, scan your computer for malicious software (viruses, trojans, etc) using an appropriate anti-virus scanner and ensure that it is clean, before reconnecting it.
