Microsoft Automatic Email Service Discovery
zootzone.com supports Microsoft's automatic email account configuration protocol, using the SRV resource record extension.
Microsoft's explanation is available at this location:
Follow the steps outlined below to enable auto-discovery for your domain.
The domain example.com is used for illustrative purposes. Replace this with your own domain.
Either log into the control panel, or send a support request to the DNS service provider of your domain.
Create (or request the creation of) the following SRV resource record in your domain's DNS database/zone.
The SRV record's information should match the following:
Service: _autodiscover
Protocol: _tcp
Port Number: 443
Priority: 0
Weight: 0
Host: auto.zootzone.com
If your provider's DNS control panel rejects the above-mentioned Priority and Weight values, then use identical positive integer values like 1, 5, or 10 instead of 0.
Using the details above creates the following SRV record:
SRV : _autodiscover._tcp.example.com -> 0 0 443 auto.zootzone.com
You may have to wait a while for the new record to be accessible by other computers.
Important:
- If you are migrating between email providers and wish to update this data in the near future, set the TTL (Time To Live) option to a few minutes.
- Once the migration is complete, raise the TTL value back up to an hour, or a day.
The above SRV resource record will direct Outlook to the following auto-discovery location:
https://auto.zootzone.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
via the auto-discovery process below.
- 1
POST to https://example.com/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml
This fails.
- 2
POST to https://autodiscover.example.com/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml
This fails.
- 3
GET http://autodiscover.example.com/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml
This fails.
- 4
Look-up the SRV resource record for _autodiscover._tcp.example.com in DNS.
This returns the result 0 0 443 auto.zootzone.com
- 5
Outlook asks permission to continue with auto-discovery by POST-ing to:
https://auto.zootzone.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
This succeeds.
