Transferring co.za domains

Introduction

Domain transfers within the co.za namespace are initiated by the gaining registrar and accepted, or denied by the registrant via an email ticket voting procedure. If the registrant accepts the ticket, the control of the domain will be transferred away from the losing registrar to the gaining registrar.

Enter the domain part of the address without co.za in the search box.

Losing Registrar:

The service provider from which the control of the domain will be transferred. The Losing Registrar is listed in the domain's WHOIS record in the Sponsoring Registrar field, prior to the transfer succeeding.

Gaining Registrar:

The service provider to whom the control of the domain will be transferred.

Registrant:

The person, or legal entity which owns the right to use the domain.

In the domain's WHOIS record:

The Registrant is listed in the Registrant Name field.
The email address to which the voting ticket is sent is listed in the Registrant Email field.

Procedure

The Gaining Registrar initiates the transfer request.

zootzone.com initiates the transfer request.
The domain's WHOIS record will show pendingTransfer next to the field Domain Status.

The Domain Registry sends a voting ticket via email to the Registrant.

ZA Central Registry sends an email from cozaticket@registry.net.za to the Registrant Email listed in the domain's WHOIS record.

The Registrant receives the voting ticket via email and either accepts, or denies the transfer.

To Accept the transfer, the Registrant either clicks on the Accept Transfer link, or replies to the message, deleting the word Deny from the MAGIC COOKIE line.
To Deny the transfer, the Registrant either clicks on the Deny Transfer link, or replies to the message, deleting the word Accept from the MAGIC COOKIE line.

The domain transfers from the Losing Registrar to the Gaining Registrar

If the Losing Registrar is Uniforum, then the transfer occurs 24 hours after the transfer was initiated in Step 1.
Otherwise, the domain will transfer almost immediately after the Registrant accepts the transfer.
Transfer requests expire 5 days after they are initiated.
The domain's WHOIS record will show the Losing Registrar next to the field Sponsoring Registrar and pendingTransfer next to the field Domain Status if the domain transfer is still pending.
The domain's WHOIS record will show the Gaining Registrar next to the field Sponsoring Registrar and ok next to the field Domain Status if the domain transfer succeeded.

The Gaining Registrar optionally updates the domain's WHOIS record

In most instances:

The Admin, Billing & Tech contacts will be updated to match the Gaining Registrar's details.
The Name Server fields will be updated to match the Gaining Registrar's name servers.
